It
will only happen if it's made to happen...
Your
input is needed!
The CSA has
purchased the rights to the Dietz Catalog and is moving
forward on a project to publish a new Confederate Catalog in 2010,
an ambitious time frame. The Editorial Board of the CSA Catalog
needs your thoughts and comments to ensure the format and content
of the new catalog will best meet your needs. Please take the
time now to help us do that.
The following
questionnaire has few actual questions because we want your thoughts
and ideas.
First some
basic questions:
1) Your comments
on what layout you would like to see in the new catalog. This
can include the size of the volume and how the information is
presented.
2) Your comments
on how the provisionals (adhesives, envelopes and handstamped
paids) should be listed. This may include whether all provisionals
should be listed together, segregated by type or with the handstamped
paid provisionals included with the other handstamped paid markings.
Review the
list of topics below and provide any specific comments you have.
Be as detailed as possible. If desired, you can reference individual
topics by the associated number.
1. Provisionals
(U. S. after secession and Confederate)
2. Stampless (handstamped paids, manuscript paids, due markings)
3. General Issues
4. Essays and Proofs
5. Officials/Semi-officials
6. Patriotics
7. College covers
8. Special Services (blockade, cross-border, express, trans-Mississippi,
Louisiana Relief Committee, etc.)
9. Prisoner-of-War
10. Flag-of-Truce
11. Inland waterway usages
12. Postmarks and cancellations
13. Army field cancels
14. Carriers and locals
15. Fakes - A separate book on fakes is in the works, thus this
section will be scaled back in the CSA Catalog. Please report
dangerous fakes to Peter Powell for possible inclusion in this
separate volume. Do not report common counterfeits or their use
on cover to Peter Powell.
As with any
catalog of this type, it is important for collectors to report
errors in the old catalog, unlisted material since the1986 edition,
as well as any ideas or suggestions. This is your catalog. Don't
assume the editorial board or section editors are aware of all
changes just because an item may have appeared on eBay recently
or in an auction catalog some time in the past. Check the Section
Editors' page for contact information on the proper person to
contact.
Feel free
to provide any other comments or ideas you may have to make the
catalog the best ever. We strongly urge everyone to review the
topics above and provide your comments.
Thank you!
