CSA Catalog editors need your help

The editorial board of the forthcoming CSA Catalog (circa 2011) is issuing a general plea for help in a long neglected area of study. Often dates in print from the past deter closer examination, which we would like to remedy.

  • If anyone has what they think is a new Earliest Known Use (EKU) predating October 4, 1864 for a Keatinge & Ball Type I (Scott CSA #11) or predating September 4, 1864 for a Keatinge & Ball Type II (Scott CSA #12), please let us know. You may be asked to submit the item for a free postage paid examination by the editorial board.
  • While the Keatinge & Ball issues are our main interest, if anyone has what they think is a new Earliest Known Use (EKU) predating April 21, 1863 for an Archer & Daly Type I (Scott  CSA #11) or predating May 1, 1863 for an Archer & Daly Type II (Scott CSA #12), again, please let us know and you may be asked to submit the  item for a free postage paid examination by the editorial board.
  • Anyone having any partial or full Archer & Daly imprints on the 20c green (Scott CSA #13), please let the editors know what you have and in what shade of green. It has never been fully established as to whether the imprint on this plate was present from the start of printing or added later.

Please send any such items to  Jerry S. Palazolo
